Arriving in the Shanghai we were greeted with the sight of a massive and modern city. Walking around the city you are amazed by the size of the city and by the impressive and interesting skyscrappers rising far into the sky. The most distinctive building is the Shanghai TV Tower which is unique in many ways. Heading out at night we headed to the Captains Hostel which has a bar overlooking the bund or waterfront and the Shanghai skyline at night. The next day I headed to the wonderful Shanghai museum which contains ancient statues, coins, stamps, and scrool paintings from China. Heading over to the old quater we looked around shopping and eating different street food. I ended to night with an acrobatic show which contained many traditional forms of acrobatics and new ones and was a fun way to wrap up the last night in Shanghai. Arriving the city we were greeted by the massive Stone Wall that surrounds the city. The city has grown past the ancient wall but the wall still plays a big part in the city life. The city is very modern and you can see the evidence of new buildings being built everywhere. After settling in we headed to a 300 year old restaurant that is famous for its dumplings which were delicious. After eating we headed to the Wild Goose Pagoda to explore the Temples for Buddha. The first night in Xi'an we headed over to the Muslim Quater and bargained hard for replica terracota warriors and other souvenirs. The street also contained little stalls that sold street food that was delicious. The next day after an hour ride we arrived at the site of the Terracota Warriors. Entering the site you are greeted by thousands of Clay soldiers standing guard. The site is amazing and contains over 10,000 Terracota Warriors. Many of the warriors have not been excavated yet and also you can see the soldiers that were destroyed in Ancient times. The warriors were created for the Emperor who believed that he needed an army for the afterlife. Each individual soldier is different and at one point completely painted but the paint has faded since the discovery in 1974. After arriving back to the main city of Xi'an we decided to go on top of the fortress wall and bike along the top. You can rent bikes while on top and although the bikes are old as the hills they worked fine for riding along the top of the wall. It is very [Linkleri görebilmek için üye olmalisiniz.... ]. One of my students was on our flight, so we got a ride to our hotel with her dad. We started out the adventure at Tiamenan Square. It turns out that many Chinese haven't seen giant white peeps, so Den and I turned into immediate celebrities. People were sneaking pictures of us left, right and centre and the brave ones actually came up to snap a few shots with us. It was funny and awesome at the same time. We ate some local fares... grilled scorpions on a stick, dumplings, and Tsing Toa beer, which turns out to be an offical sponsor of the NBA??? Yeah, sure. We checked out the Silk Market, Peal Market and shopping malls (and then hit up the Forbidden City , the Temple of Heaven, the Bird's Nest and Water Cube and finally out to the Great Wall.. My sis is flying in on the 26th, so we get to chill out for a week on the beach, enjoying tropical drinks with small fruits and umbrellas, and some of the best reefs around.
